A bit over a year following a groundbreaking ceremony, the Anna C. Verna Playground is now open to all visitors at FDR Park. Honoring Philly’s inaugural and sole female City Council president, this playground is a component of the $250 million renovation of the green area located in the southern tip of Philadelphia.

Perhaps the most impressive highlight of the new space is a mega swing set that encircles the playground. Dubbed ‘North America’s Largest Swing Set’ it offers 20 different spots including tire swings, bucket seats, disc-shaped nest seats, and more.

There are also two big tree houses that look like giant bird cages — constructed around real tree trunks, they each culminate in a curving covered metal slide. Additional slides are found around the playground’s rolling hills. There’s a big boulder scramble with netting, a log obstacle course, a pavilion, and nine different picnic sites.
